Lesson Plan: Measuring Density Physics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the density of materials and objects and convert between different units of density.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recall that the SI unit of density is kg/m3,
  • recall that g/cm3 is a commonly used unit of density,
  • convert between the units of kg/m3 and g/cm3.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • units of mass and volume,
  • unit prefixes.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • using 𝜌=𝑀𝑉 to calculate the density of an object or material,
  • non-SI units of density.
