Objectives

Students will be able to

  • find 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, and 10 less than a given number using knowledge of the hundred chart,
  • recognize that addition is used to find 1 and 10 more and subtraction is used to find 1 and 10 less,
  • identify an unknown number based on a description of 1 or 10 more or less.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • finding 1 more and 1 less than a given number,
  • counting forward and backward within 100.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • numbers greater than 100,
  • adding or subtracting tens and ones to or from a given number,
  • adding or subtracting more than 1,
  • adding or subtracting more than one group of ten.
