Lesson Plan: Scientific Investigations
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to formulate a measurable question and conduct a reliable investigation.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- formulate a measurable question by making observations on a picture,
- differentiate measurable questions from nonmeasurable questions,
- describe and list the steps of a reliable investigation,
- predict the results of an investigation,
- record data in an investigation,
- define the term reliable and describe how it relates to an investigation.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- making observations and asking questions about the world around them,
- measuring distance using a ruler and measuring tape,
- measuring time,
- measuring mass.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- representing and interpreting data,
- using data to make conclusions about the results of an investigation,
- the scientific method.
