Lesson Plan: The Carbon Cycle Chemistry • 7th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the key steps of the carbon cycle, including respiration, photosynthesis, combustion, and decomposition.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify and describe the key steps of the carbon cycle,
- list examples of processes that affect the movement of carbon through Earth,
- write the chemical reactions occurring at different stages of the carbon cycle.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- photosynthesis and respiration in plants and animals,
- the combustion of carbon-based chemicals.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the greenhouse effect or global warming.
