Lesson Plan: Counting Money: Pounds and Piasters Mathematics

This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to find the value of a group of notes and coins in pounds and piastres.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • count to find the value of a mixed group of coins and notes up to 1,000 pounds,
  • state the value of these in pounds and piastres,
  • identify a group of coins and notes that have a given value,
  • compare two amounts of money,
  • add and subtract amounts of money in pounds and piastres.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the notes and coins used in Egypt and their value,
  • finding the value of money in pounds up to 100,
  • counting in twos, fives, and tens.
