Lesson Plan: The Life Cycle of Flowering Plants: How Seeds Are Dispersed Science • 2nd Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the ways in which seeds are formed in a plant and are later dispersed.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe where seeds are formed in flowering plants,
- name the process that forms them (fertilization),
- describe the importance of seed dispersal,
- identify the different ways seeds are dispersed (wind, water, animals, gravity, and explosion).
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the parts of flowering plants and their functions, including roots, stem, leaves, and flowers,
- the definition of fertilization,
- the stages of the life cycle of flowering plants: germination, growth, flowering, producing fruit, and dispersing seeds.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- germination of seeds,
- conditions for seed growth.
