Lesson Plan: Nets of 3D Shapes
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to form a three-dimensional shape from a net.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- define polygons as closed shapes made of straight line segments,
- classify polygons as triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, or octagons based on the number of sides, angles, or vertices they have,
- understand that polygons have the same number of sides, angles, and vertices,
- form a three-dimensional shape from a net,
- decompose a three-dimensional shape into its net,
- recognize which nets correspond to which three-dimensional shapes.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- angles and lines.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- convex and concave polygons.
