Lesson Plan: Globalization and African Countries
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify the impacts of globalization on today’s society and how African countries can face the challenges and opportunities of globalization.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- define globalization in economic terms,
- understand how globalization has impacted other aspects of the contemporary societies,
- understand the following effects of economic globalization: globalization of production, scientific revolution, globalization of capital, and global trade liberalization,
- understand opportunities and challenges due to globalization,
- understand how international organizations, such as the African Union, help countries face challenges of globalization,
- understand strategies for African countries to achieve economic development to keep up with globalization,
- know how the TRIPS agreement for intellectual property rights impacts developing countries,
- understand the different policies that countries seeking development should adopt.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- international economic relations,
- balance of transfer accounts,
- economic growth.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- other international trade blocs,
- the impact of globalization on the Egyptian economy.
