Lesson Plan: The Properties of Laser Light Physics • Third Year of Secondary School

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the properties of laser light and use technical terms to refer to these properties.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • compare the superposition of a set of waves that may or may not be coherent to the frequency spectrum corresponding to that set of waves,
  • diagrammatically compare frequency spectra in terms of spectral width,
  • compare light beams in terms of their degree of collimation,
  • compare light beams in terms of the degree to which they are scattered,
  • compare light beams in terms of their attenuation with distance.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • graphs of spectra.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • mechanisms of laser beam production.
