Lesson Plan: Gaussian Elimination Mathematics

This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to use Gaussian elimination to get a row echelon form of a matrix and hence solve a system of linear equations.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use elementary row operations to put a matrix into row echelon form,
  • work out how many solutions a system of equations has,
  • use Gaussian elimination to solve systems of linear equations.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • matrices.
