Lesson Plan: Translations
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to translate shapes on grids and describe the translation of an object.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- translate a point on a grid,
- translate a shape on a grid by translating one vertex at a time,
- describe the translation of an object on a grid using the words left, right, up, and down,
- recognize that the dimensions of a shape do not change when being translated.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- recognizing moving left, right, up, and down on a grid as translation.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- translations with coordinates.
