Lesson Plan: Estimating Probability Using Simulations Mathematics • 7th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to express simulation data both numerically and graphically and estimate the probability of the desired outcome.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand that we can estimate the probability of an event occurring by running simulations that model the situation,
- design simulations including spinners, coin flips, and random number generators,
- interpret data from a simulation to calculate the experimental probability of an event occurring.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- experimental and theoretical probability,
- compound events.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- binomial probability.
