Lesson Plan: Using Water

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify ways that humans use water and describe an experiment comparing filters that can be used to clean water.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • describe ways that humans use water,
  • identify sources of water,
  • define the term filtration,
  • describe an experiment comparing different filters.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the states of matter,
  • the three forms of water (ice, liquid, and vapor/steam),
  • bodies of water on Earth,
  • the fact that plants and animals need water to survive,
  • the terms, natural and man-made.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • how to conserve water.
