Lesson Plan: Solubility Product Chemistry
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to explain and calculate the solubility product.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- explain the concept of solubility in greater depth,
- explain the relationship between the solubility product and the product of the ion concentration,
- use calculations to evaluate and compare the solubility of different insoluble salts,
- calculate the solubility product of different insoluble salts,
- calculate the concentration of ions in solution from the solubility product.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- equilibrium constants,
- calculating the units of equilibrium constants.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the common-ion effect.
