Lesson Plan: Time in Seconds Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to measure time in seconds using stopwatches and clocks with a second hand, calculate durations in seconds, and make simple conversions between minutes and seconds.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand that there are 60 seconds in a minute,
- read a stopwatch and the second hand on a clock to measure time in seconds,
- calculate the duration in seconds from a start time and an end time,
- convert between seconds and minutes.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- finding the difference between numbers up to 100,
- addition of numbers up to 1,000.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- converting between units of time other than seconds and minutes.
