Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use compensation when adding two numbers with up to three digits,
  • use compensation when subtracting two numbers with up to three digits,
  • add and subtract two numbers with up to three digits by finding an easier equivalent problem,

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • place value up to 1,000.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • the column method for addition and subtraction.
