Lesson Plan: Photosynthesis Biology

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the process of photosynthesis and explain the importance of the products made.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • state the word and symbol equation for photosynthesis,
  • describe photosynthesis as a biological process carried out by producers (primarily plants and algae) to make their own food,
  • recall that photosynthesis is an endothermic reaction,
  • explain how plants obtain the reactants they require for photosynthesis,
  • explain how the sugars produced by photosynthesis are used by plants, including being broken down in cellular respiration and being used to synthesize other biological molecules.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the fact that plants are living organisms,
  • the general structure of a plant (e.g., leaves, a stem, and roots).

Exclusions

Students will not cover
