Lesson Plan: Comparing: More and Less

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to compare two objects directly by volume and capacity using the words “holds more,” “holds less,” and “holds the same.”

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • say which container holds more,
  • say which container holds less,
  • state whether containers hold the same amount,
  • use symbols to compare the contents of containers.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • describing the volume in a container as full, nearly full, half-full, nearly empty, or empty.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • measuring volume and capacity,
  • comparing the volume or capacity of more than two containers.
