Lesson Plan: Chromosomal Abnormalities Biology

This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to identify chromosomal abnormalities from a karyotype and explain the effects of these abnormalities.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • give examples of abnormal chromosomal cases and their effects, including Klinefelter’s syndrome, Turner syndrome, and Down syndrome,
  • understand and interpret karyotypes of conditions caused by chromosomal abnormalities.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • normal human body cells containing 46 chromosomes.
