Objectives

Students will be able to

  • represent addition of fractions using models including bar models,
  • add unit fractions with different denominators,
  • add proper fractions with different denominators whose sum is at most one,
  • add proper fractions with different denominators whose sum is greater than one.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • finding common denominators of fractions using multiplication and division up to 12×12.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • finding least common multiples using prime factors.
