Lesson Plan: Color Mixing

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to recognize the colors that are produced by combining colors of light.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recall that specific colors of light can be reflected from an object,
  • recall that specific colors of light can be absorbed by an object,
  • recognize that colors of light can be combined to produce other colors,
  • recognize that a simple color model of light is the red-green-blue model,
  • recognize colors of light produced by adding colors from the red-green-blue color model.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the fact that light rays travel in straight lines,
  • the meaning of the terms transparent, opaque, and translucent,
  • the fact that white light consists of all visible colors.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • any properties of light rays other than color and direction.
