Lesson Plan: Pollution and Eutrophication Biology

This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to recall sources of pollution and discuss the effect of pollution on biodiversity.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • define the terms smog and acid rain,
  • describe how pollution can occur in air from smoke and acid gases,
  • describe how pollution can occur in water from sewage, fertilizers, or toxic chemicals,
  • describe how pollution can occur in land from landfills and toxic chemicals,
  • outline the process of eutrophication,
  • discuss the impacts of pollution on biodiversity.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the reasonings why we should try to maintain biodiversity,
  • the principle of bioaccumulation.
