Lesson Plan: Introduction to the Respiratory System Science • 4th Grade

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • describe the function of the respiratory system,
  • identify and describe the nose, pharynx, trachea, and lungs,
  • describe how each part of the nose is adapted to its function,
  • describe how each part of the trachea is adapted to its function,
  • identify alveoli as the site of gas exchange.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the basic systems of the body,
  • the levels of organization.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • the circulatory system,
  • cellular respiration,
  • the levels of organization of organisms.
