Lesson Plan: The Structure and Function of the Digestive System Science

Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the general structure of the digestive system,
- describe the function of the digestive system,
- describe the digestive canal,
- describe the main components of the mouth that help with digestion.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the human body systems,
- identifying the circulatory, digestive, urinary, nervous, and respiratory systems in the human body,
- describing the basic functions of the circulatory, digestive, urinary, nervous, and respiratory systems.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the functions of specific parts of the digestive system except the mouth,
- body systems other than the digestive system,
- how the body uses nutrients from food.
