This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to factor expressions by grouping.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify when the grouping method needs to be used to factor an expression,
- partially factor an expression by grouping,
- fully factor expressions by grouping, including those where a common factor is identified between terms.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- factoring trinomials,
- factoring the difference of squares,
- factoring sums and differences of cubes.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- completing the square for general expressions.
