Lesson Plan: Inverse of a Matrix: Row Operations Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use elementary row operations to find the inverse of a matrix if possible.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- invert a matrix by creating the augmented matrix and performing row operations on it to get ,
- show that a matrix is not invertible by performing row operations until a pivot entry appears in the right-hand side of the augmented matrix.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- matrix inverses,
- elementary row operations.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- reduced row echelon form,
- solving a system of equations directly using row operations.
