Lesson Plan: The Perpendicular Distance between Points and Planes Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to calculate the perpendicular distance between a plane and a point, between a plane and a straight line parallel to it, and between two parallel planes using a formula.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- calculate the perpendicular distance between a point and a plane,
- calculate the perpendicular distance between a plane and a straight line parallel to it,
- calculate the perpendicular distance between two parallel planes (application on the first objective).
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- calculating the dot product of two 3D vectors,
- writing the equation of a plane in different forms,
- finding the normal vector to a plane from its equation in whatever form.
