Lesson Plan: Multiplying Decimals: Partial Products
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to multiply decimals by breaking them apart and calculating partial products that we can add to get the answer.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- partition decimals (to one decimal place) into ones and tenths,
- multiply a decimal by a whole number by finding partial products before combining,
- multiply two decimals by finding partial products before combining,
- set out calculations using models or long multiplication.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- multiplication facts up to ,
- reading and writing decimals with one decimal place,
- using partial products to multiply whole numbers.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- multiplying decimals with more than one decimal place.
