Lesson Plan: Polar and Nonpolar Solvents Chemistry • First Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe polar and nonpolar solvents.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- summarize the concept of solubility,
- explain the differences between polar and nonpolar solvents and between protic and aprotic solvents,
- list examples of polar and nonpolar solvents,
- explain the concept of hydrogen bonding in relation to polar solvents,
- use the terms miscible and immiscible.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the terms solute, solvent, and solution.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- suspensions and other mixtures.
