Lesson Plan: Mass–Energy Equivalence Physics • 9th Grade

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to calculate the rest mass energy of massive objects and how much energy is required to produce particles with given masses.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use 𝐸=𝑚𝑐 in all permutations.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • pair production of particles,
  • annihilation of particles,
  • units of 𝑒𝑉𝑐,
  • relativistic kinetic energy.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • total relativistic energy,
  • metrics,
  • intervals.
