Lesson Plan: Electromagnetic Induction in Transformers Physics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to calculate the change in potential difference and current produced by a transformer.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recognize that transformers are used with alternating current,
  • recognize that transformers change both the potential difference and the current of an electrical signal,
  • recall that magnetic materials can be used for the cores of transformers,
  • use 𝑉𝑉=𝑛𝑛 in all permutations,
  • use 𝑉𝐼=𝑉𝐼 in all permutations.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • electromagnetic induction.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • electrical power generation,
  • generators,
  • transformers that are not 100% efficient.
