Lesson Plan: Electrical Conductors and Insulators
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify the properties of electrical conductors and insulators and how to test whether a material is a conductor or insulator of electricity.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe what electrical conductors and insulators are,
- test whether something is an electrical conductor or insulator,
- explain that metals are usually good electrical conductors.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the common components of a simple series circuit: cell, battery, wire, bulb, motor, and buzzer,
- how a simple series circuit works,
- common materials such as wood, aluminum foil, gold, silver, and plastic.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- how switches work,
- what materials are needed for switches to work.
