Lesson Plan: Water on Earth
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify sources of water, describe how fresh and salt water differ, and explain the importance of water conservation.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify and describe sources/bodies of water in solid, liquid, and gas forms on a map of Earth,
- describe the differences between salt water and fresh water, including sources and uses,
- explain why it is important to conserve fresh water.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- states of matter,
- water in all three states,
- everyday examples of water in different forms,
- how heating and cooling can change water,
- satellite pictures.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- any parts of the water cycle,
- specific names of the processes of changing states of water.
