Lesson Plan: Shape Patterns Mathematics • 4th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to investigate shape patterns and relate them to number patterns to find the rule a pattern follows and predict future shapes in the pattern.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- extend patterns involving shapes,
- express the rule for a shape pattern in words,
- express numerical patterns shown by shapes.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- number patterns.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- symmetrical shape patterns.
