Lesson Plan: Rearranging Formulas involving Logarithms Physics

This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to rearrange formulas that contain logarithms and exponents.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • rearrange formulas involving variables as exponents and logarithms, including the natural logarithm,
  • recall that 𝑒 and ln(𝑥) are inverse functions of each other,
  • recall that 𝑒=𝑥ln(),
  • recall that ln(𝑒)=𝑥,
  • recall that 𝑎 and log(𝑥) are inverse functions of each other,
  • recall that 𝑎=𝑥log() ,
  • recall that log(𝑎)=𝑥.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the rules for adding exponents,
    • 𝑎×𝑎=𝑎,
    • 𝑎÷𝑎=𝑎,
    • (𝑎)=𝑎,
  • the rules for adding logarithms,
    • logloglog(𝑥𝑦)=(𝑥)+(𝑦),
    • logloglog𝑥𝑦=(𝑥)(𝑦),
    • loglog(𝑥)=𝑦(𝑥).
