Lesson Plan: Writing Two-Step Rules Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to write and interpret two-step expressions where the unknown is either a symbol or a letter.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify expressions with two operations,
- write two-step algebraic expressions with a symbol or a letter,
- interpret two-step expressions,
- convert between algebraic expressions and verbal expressions with two steps.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the four operations on whole numbers,
- interpreting word problems,
- writing and evaluating numerical expressions.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- expressions with brackets,
- expressions with exponents,
- algebraic equations.
