Lesson Plan: Equation of a Straight Line: Vector Form Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to find the equation of a straight line in vector form.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- recall the definition of the vector equation of a straight line using a direction vector and a vector pointing to a point on the line,
- find the vector equation of a straight line given a point on the line and its direction vector,
- find the vector equation of a straight line given a point on the line and its slope,
- find the vector equation of a straight line given two points on the line,
- prove that three points are collinear by using the vector equation of a straight line,
- convert an equation of a straight line from standard form or slope–intercept form to vector form.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- vector notation,
- Cartesian equations of straight lines.
