Lesson Plan: Organization of the Nervous System Biology

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the organization of the human nervous system.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • describe the structural organization of the nervous system as central and peripheral systems,
  • recall that the central nervous system includes the brain and the spinal cord,
  • describe the organization of the peripheral nervous system as consisting of the sensory (afferent) and motor (efferent) divisions,
  • describe the functional organization of the motor division of the peripheral nervous system into somatic and autonomic nervous systems.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the human body containing complex systems and organs.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • reflex actions,
  • parts of the brain.
