Lesson Plan: Circles
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to draw circles with a compass, locate the center of a circle, and define and measure a circle’s radius, diameter, and chords.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify the center of a circle,
- identify whether a point is on the inside or the outside of a circle,
- draw a circle accurately given its radius or diameter,
- identify a circle’s radius, diameter, and chords,
- classify a line within a circle as a radius, a diameter, or a chord,
- solve problems involving the diameter or radius of a circle.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the concept of circles as two-dimensional shapes that are perfectly round,
- how to identify and measure line segments.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- circumferences of circles,
- areas of circles,
