Lesson Plan: Prime Polynomials Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to verify whether a quadratic expression is prime.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- recall that a prime polynomial is a polynomial with integer coefficients that cannot be factored into polynomials of lower degrees with integer coefficients,
- determine whether a quadratic expression is prime or not,
- demonstrate that a quadratic expression is not prime by finding its factors.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- factoring quadratic expressions.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- cubic or higher-degree polynomials,
- irreducibility.
