Lesson Plan: Further Tests for Anions Chemistry
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify a selection of aqueous negative ions based on their reactivity and the color and solubility of their salts.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the test and results for the bicarbonate anion,
- describe the test and results for the sulfide anion,
- describe the test and results for the thiosulfate anion,
- describe the test and results for the nitrite anion,
- describe the test and results for the phosphate anion,
- write ionic equations for the tests for bicarbonate, sulfide, thiosulfate, nitrite, and phosphate anions,
- identify the anion in an unknown solution using the tests above.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- anions,
- precipitates.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- tests for cations,
- tests for any other anions except those listed above.
