Lesson Plan: Place Value of Numbers up to 1,000,000 Mathematics • 4th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to write numbers up to one million in standard, word, and expanded forms and state the value of any digit.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- write numbers in standard, word, and expanded forms,
- state the place value of any digit in numbers up to one million,
- state the value of any digit in numbers up to one million,
- describe the value of digits in numbers.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- place value of numbers up to hundred thousand,
- how a digit’s place value is 10 times greater than the value of the place to its right and ten times smaller than the value of the place to its left.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- working with numbers in the millions (but they should be taught that 1,000,000 is the number after 999,999).
