Lesson Plan: Definite Integrals: The Power Rule
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to evaluate definite integrals using the power rule.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand what a definite integral is and how it differs from an indefinite integral,
- evaluate definite integrals that can be integrated using the power rule,
- find algebraic constants by evaluating definite integrals,
- solve real-world problems involving definite integrals.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- indefinite integrals,
- the power rule of integration.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- integrals that cannot be evaluated purely using the power rule,
- areas under curves.
