Lesson Plan: Forces and Motion Science • 3rd Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify forces and describe the effects that they can have on motion.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify push and pull forces, including friction, tension, spring forces, gravity, and magnetism,
- identify that a force can lead to a change in motion,
- understand that increasing the strength of a force can increase the change in motion,
- identify how the size and direction of forces can affect the direction of a moving object.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the idea that a force is a push or a pull,
- the concept of friction,
- magnetic forces and magnetic materials,
- describing position, motion, relative position, and relative motion,
- describing the motion of an object using distance, time, direction, and speed.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- electric forces,
- the terms balanced forces and unbalanced forces.
