Objectives

Students will be able to

  • identify equivalent fractions using models,
  • use fraction strips to determine whether two fractions are equivalent when one of them is a unit fraction,

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • how to read and write fractions in word form,
  • how to read and write fractions using numbers,
  • unit and nonunit fractions,
  • how to use models to find fractions that are equivalent to one-half.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • denominators greater than 12,
  • comparing or ordering fractions,
  • modeling with number lines.
