Lesson Plan: Points of Intersection of Parametric Equations Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the points of intersection between parametric equations and given Cartesian equations.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- find missing constants in a parametric equation given a point through which the curve of the equation passes,
- identify, if any, the points at which the curve of a parametric equation intersects the - and/or ,
- identify the points of intersection between the curves of a parametric equation and a Cartesian equation,
- find the equation of a straight line that intersects the curve of a parametric equation at two given points,
- identify whether a parametric curve and a Cartesian straight line intersect, are tangential, or do not meet.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- converting parametric equations to Cartesian equations,
- graphs of parametric equations.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- finding the intersection points of two parametric equations.
