Lesson Plan: Wave Patterns
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify and describe the movement and patterns of waves.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- explain that the movement of waves follows a pattern,
- define the terms oscillate and wave period,
- identify and describe plane and circular waves caused by different disturbances,
- explain how frequency affects wavelength,
- explain the concept of superposition and how it impacts the amplitude of waves.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the definition of a wave,
- the properties of waves, including the amplitude, wavelength, and frequency,
- identifying the crest and trough of a wave,
- states of matter,
- longitudinal and transverse waves.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- light and sound waves,
- the electromagnetic spectrum.
