# Lesson Plan: Subtracting Hundreds from Three-Digit Numbers Mathematics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to subtract multiples of one hundred from three-digit numbers and model this using place value equipment, number lines, and part–whole models.

#### Objectives

Students will be able to

• represent subtracting a multiple of one hundred from three-digit numbers using place value equipment,
• use place value language to describe subtracting a multiple of one hundred from a three-digit number,
• represent subtracting a multiple of one hundred from a three-digit number on a number line,
• complete part–whole models to find the result of subtracting multiples of one hundred from three-digit numbers,
• subtract a multiple of hundred from a three-digit number without using a model,
• determine what multiple of one hundred has been subtracted from a three-digit number.

#### Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

• subtracting ones from three-digit numbers,
• subtracting tens from three-digit numbers.

#### Exclusions

Students will not cover

• column subtraction,
• regrouping.
