Lesson Plan: Chemical Reactions and Conservation of Matter Science • 5th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify and describe chemical reactions and define the law of conservation of matter.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- review chemical changes,
- define and identify examples of chemical reactions,
- identify signs of chemical change, including color change, odor change, temperature change, and the formation of gases and solids,
- define the law of conservation of matter,
- observe the conservation of matter in chemical reactions.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- physical and chemical changes.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- chemical equations,
- reactants and products.
