Lesson Plan: Introduction to Equations
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to define what an algebraic equation is, form simple algebraic equations from written descriptions, and solve simple equations mentally.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand that a linear equation has a unique solution,
- determine whether simple equations are true or false,
- form linear equations in one or two variables involving no more than two operations,
- solve simple linear equations mentally.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- forming algebraic expressions,
- adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative integers.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- forming linear equations involving more than two operations,
- solving equations that require written methods.
